The annual Victory Ball, dedicated to the Russian Military Glory Day, was held at the Museum of the Great Patriotic War on the Poklonnaya Hill, Saturday, December 5, 2009. The event was organized by United Metallurgical Company, the Maris Liepa Charity Foundation, and the Central Museum of the 1941–1945 Great Patriotic War on the Poklonnaya Hill.
Invitees to the Victory Ball included participants of the parades held on Red Square in 1941 and 1945, Heroes of the Soviet Union and Socialist Labor Heroes, full holders of Glory Orders and Labor Glory Orders, veterans of the Great Patriotic War, Armed Forces and law-enforcement authorities, generals and officers of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation.
“Every year takes us further away from the Great Victory Day! Every passing year we find among ourselves less and less people to whom we owe this Victory. But your heroic feat will be remembered while we, who know you personally, are alive,” said Natalya Yeryomina, OMK Vice President. “We are infinitely grateful to you for what you and millions of your comrades-in-arms did for your Homeland.”
“We are happy to see you all here on this remarkable day," emphasized People’s Artist of Russia Andris Liepa. “It's now a good tradition for us to meet on Military Glory Day and, believe me, this gives us great joy. This is our small contribution and deep appreciation of your great deed for us, your great victory in that great war.”
Participants of the festive evening included former USSR Defense Minister and Marshal of the Soviet Union Dmitry Yazov, People's Artist of the USSR Vasily Lanovoy, playwright Eduard Volodarsky, and other prominent military leaders and cultural workers. The festive event was concluded by a gala concert given by the following Russian entertainment stars: People's Artist of Russia Lev Leshchenko, the pop group Plamya, Marina Liepa, Zhasmin, the children’s group Neposedy, the Russian Air Force Song and Dance Ensemble, and other performers.
